Once upon a time....

It really didn't start this way. About 7 or 8 years ago our church Celebration Christian Center in Livermore, CA embarked upon a journey to help create a life for some children in Romania. These children had either been orphaned or rejected and needed a loving, caring place to grow up. In comes Assist International humanitarian organization dedicated to relieving human suffering around the world by networking the resources in the world, with the great human need that exists. In other words; a non-governmental organization (NGO) that helps others to have a richer fuller life by bringing those who have something together with those that need something.

This year a group of 30-35 people will be making the journey to Romania along with a container load of materials to finish a couple of buildings that will house some of these children, make their lives more complete with a family that will be looking after them and helping them become educated as well as training some of the older kids with some job skills that will help them support themselves in the future. This will be the sixth trip for some to this incredible work. We will be leaving the middle of May 2007 and returning June 1st, 2007.

Romania Making it Fit
Romania Making it Fit

This is our calling: to love God and love people. The practice of this faith we have sometimes calls us to remotelocations and to do things that are outside our normal comfort zone.

This is a Helicopter view of CF Village: Assist International coordinated the building of Caminul Felix Village II in Oradea, Romania. Caminul Felix was founded by Lars and Linda Hornberg from Sweden in 1990. Assist International has been a partner with CF since 1990. In the two CF villages over 200 children have parents and are in a family environment in which they have the opportunity to be secure, be educated and mentored by those who love them. It gives these abandoned and orphaned children a hope and a future.

Today a 40+ foot shipping container was loaded with building materials and household goods for this trip. Bundles of lumber, boxes of donated plumbing fixtures, cabinets, sheetrock and every type of supply you would need to build a house were loaded

As you might be able to tell, this is an extraordinary undertaking and one that will be a life changing time for those that make the trip as well as those who will be the recipient of this building project.

For some this will be their very first trip and the excitement of doing something very different from their normal lives is building. The joy of being able to help provide this type of help for those that cannot helps themselves is immeasurable.

Loading this container is just the very first step. Look forward to more as this project proceeds.
